Cha Cha Changes!

We have been blessed with so many amazing clients, awesome couples and adorable babies that we have decided to make a few changes around here to better serve you!
First we would like to invite new clients to stop in for a consultation before your session. You are making an investment in photography, and we would like to learn as much as we can about you, your family, your style, your home and your photography needs. Of course we will talk about clothing and the feel you would like for your session while you are here, so let me know if you have any questions at all! Our goal is to prepare in advance so your portrait session is stress free. If you are travelling from a distance, please let me know and we can set up a time to go over the details on the phone.

You will also notice that our product options and pricing have changed. In order for us to continue to offer the level of service and quality of products, our print and session pricing has increased. Clients with sessions currently booked and those online will still have our current pricing, but all new sessions will be booked under our new pricing. Give us a call if you have any questions at all regarding these changes.

To make the ordering process easier (and mom's life a little easier) we have simplified the print options available online. Our custom products and custom sizes are still available, just give us a call if you have any questions or would like a size not listed online. We will also offer archival CDs of your portrait session, complete with a custom case.

Yay for new products! We now also offer amazing wall canvas groupings, beautiful portrait albums, portrait session proof books, guest books and much more. Please let us know if you have something special in mind or if you have any questions about our new products.

One of the cool things about growth is being able to introduce our clients to some cool cats. We have three assistants helping us out this summer photographing weddings and generally being awesome. Watch our blog for a formal introduction to these awesome ladies.

In the next couple of months we will also be updating to a sweet new blog, and adding a site for Brent's model portrature, Kristy Studio Art Photography - KSA Photography.

Jenny and Justin were married on May 8th at the People's Church in East Lansing. The weather was a little bit crazy, with rain on and off all day, followed by crazy wind and then sunshine in the evening. Don't let the warm tones fool you, it was freezing cold out... We were so happy that the bride toughed it out and I love the stormy images! Congratulation Mr. and Mrs. Morris, we had so much fun freezing at your wedding!

Newborn Emmaline Rose had the perfect mix of sleepy time and awake time during her session. She was even alert and smiling for the first shots, and out cold for the shots of her alone. The bottom image and the images with her little hat are some of my favorite newborn portraits ever. Her little lips pout perfectly and her skin is absolutely beautiful! Baby Aubrielle was so sweet and tiny! We actually had two separate sessions with her, the first with the entire family, and the second with just mom, dad and baby. It worked out great, although I had an idea to try and prop her up in the bag (yes it would have been super cute!!) but she was NOT happy about it, so we abandoned the mission, and set her down with her tooshie in the bag instead. I love the results and I cannot wait to see her again this fall!

Sweet Savannah

Savannah is the beautiful daughter of good friends of ours. She was a little over five pounds when she came in for her session, and I could not believe how perfect and tiny she was. I love that we were able to capture a few little smiles from her, and that she let me try so many different shots while she slept! Welcome to the world little princess!

Cameron in the Great Outdoors

Outdoor sessions with boys are pretty perfect. Cameron loved to pick up sticks and at one point had three that he was carrying around. He was a bit shy at first, but had fun just exploring as we walked around the park. I tend to make funny noises and sing crazy songs to get their attention, so if you see me at a park, do not be frightened, that is pretty normal for me. Although if I am alone, you may want to call someone.....

When I started my photography business, I had no idea of the amazing relationships that I would build with clients, and how much they would bless my life. I also had no clue that through photography I would be able to reconnect with old friends from high school and be able to see them get married and their families grow! Little Ronan is the son of a friend from high school who I had not seen in about ten years. I am so glad that I get the chance to help him remember these amazing times and I was so excited to meet his awesome wife! Congratulations First family!

I love love. The Sobie wedding was so beautiful, and the couple so sincere I had a hard time keeping my eyes dry! Yes, I am a bit notorious for crying at movies (just ask my little brother) but normally during weddings I get very excited and happy, just not so much weepy. This was an exception. Jessica and Tony are an amazing couple and I feel so honored to have taken part in their wedding day. Congratulations Sobies!

Sweet Straps

We have the best camera straps ever. I love them. They attach to the bottom of your camera instead of the sides... Your camera slides along the strap, for more info, check out the R-Strap from http://www.blackrapid.com/!

On a side note, when I wear both cameras, crossing the straps in front, I feel a bit like Rambo.

Why I Hate Exit Signs.....

You are waiting with anticipation as the beautiful music fills the air and the charming bridal party walks down the isle. Building up to that moment.... you know the one, where everyone stands, the doors open, and a proud father has the arm of the beautiful bride, and glowing, just above them, a HUGE RED EXIT SIGN.

He (yes, I believe exit signs are male) is also present when the bridal party enters the reception, in the hallway where the bride and groom share a private moment, in the sanctuary of beautiful old stone churches, and three of the little beasts were mounted above the wide archways of an outdoor pavilion. Outdoor, open air... that one has to be my personal favorite. I could feel him mocking me with his evil glowing red letters....

I understand the need for a quick evacuation in case of a fire, but seriously people, the exit is where you entered.. Is it that necessary? I am sure it is, and I joke but I really think I have removed hundreds of exit signs from wedding images. So I figured I would share my frustration with you and a few of my favorites.

Matt and Ashley were married Friday, April 30th in Dewitt, Michigan. The weather was perfect, and I loved the lighting inside this church! If only all churches could be so well lit.... Anyway, following their ceremony, we went to a park just down the road for some fun and beautiful shots outdoors.

I can tell you one thing about this couple, they will never be at a loss for laughter. The two were so playful and fun to work with, sometimes it was hard to get back to business! Congratulations Matt & Ashley.

Wedding Season Starts off with a Surgery!

I wish I could say wedding season started off with a bang, but this year it started off with a surgery...

Friday April 23rd at about 1am, I ended up in the ER with crazy back pain. After a bunch of tests including an ultrasound and an MRI, the doctors let me know that I would need to have my gall bladder removed. I had gall stones and inflammation. (Apparently your estrogen levels in pregnancy can make your gall bladder go crazy.. who knew?)

We went home from the ER Friday afternoon planning to schedule the surgery at a later date, so I would have plenty of time to recover between weddings. Things did not go as planned.

I started having a few complications Sunday morning, so the admitted me to the hospital, started IV antibiotics and scheduled a procedure for Monday and surgery for Tuesday. Thanks to many prayers, the blockage went away so I did not need a blockage removed, and had the surgery to remove my gall bladder Tuesday afternoon.

I came home Tuesday night (missing my 11 week old baby, 2 year old son, my husband and my very comfy bed), and shot a one year old's birthday session on Thursday. I knew if I could handle that, than the weekends weddings should be fine! Thankfully I felt pretty good Friday for our first wedding of the season, and after Saturday's wedding was pretty tired, but very glad to be healthy! Sunday I surprised my husband with a 30th birthday party and I am pretty sure that night I went to bed at 9pm...

At each wedding, I am always reminded of what an amazing husband I have, and how powerful God is. He really showed me how to rely on others, and revealed how loving, supportive, funny and talented my husband is. He also has been carrying everything over 10 pounds lately, so that is good too!

Anyway, I really appreciate all of your support, and I am excited to share in so many of your lives.

To prove I am in fact, still alive.... here is a shot from this week with our beautiful daughter Charlotte.

Devan arrived with his mom Justine for her maternity session. He was saying on his way in that he was only going to be in a couple of pictures..... Obviously he changed his mind! Every time mom stepped out of the studio for an outfit change, Devan stepped in front of the camera with an idea for a shoot of his own. He is an awesome kid and has a great personality. I could totally see him in an ad for Abercrombe. Maybe in a few years....

One Hot Mama

I think that pregnancy is so beautiful, and expectant mom Justine really makes it look hot! She is a hairstylist, so of course she looked amazing and stylish. Her son Devan was also adorable and handsome and by no means shy in front of the camera. We had a little session of his own everytime Justine changed outfits. It was hilarious. The playfulness of the top two images really makes me love this family. I cannot wait to meet Devan's little sister!

Back to Work, if I can call it that....

We are back to work around here, and life could not be better. We are very blessed to have amazing clients who understand that occasionally nusing a newborn trumps taking a portrait, and that things may be a little bit noisier around here for a while! I have learned to be more patient and appreciate the quiet times, and really get to know the amazing parents who visit us. (I love that our son Austin calls our clients, our 'Guests'.)

The last few weeks we have had more newborn sessions than any previous month of our business. I will be posting them here this weekend, and thought I would start with this little disclaimer about our life right now -

A Normal Day for Kristy

Starts around 3am, or 5am, or 2am, all depending on the demands of an 8 week old.
Includes diapering, feeding, clothing, singing, running, bathing, driving, bartering, laughing, learning, praying, more feeding, more diapering..... and ocassionally sleeping.
May also include typing, shooting (with a camera), emailing, blogging, phoning, editing, reading, uploading.... and occasionally eating out (you will notice cooking did not appear above :).

Sweet Charlotte

Charlotte has been an amazing baby so far. I cannot believe she is already a month old. Our son is adjusting pretty well and loves the baby, but he has been doing a bit more whining.... Hopefully this will soon pass! As you can tell, Charlotte is not shy in front of the camera, and I think she wanted to prove to all of my clients that I really don't mind baby pee and poo on everything in the studio. She may have been saving it up for the right moment, because each time we have her downstairs in her birthday suit, she seems to find a new item to 'christen'. Hillarie's Maternity Session

Hillarie and I are due the same week in February. I was so excited when she called because one of my favorite clients is one where our boys were born within two weeks of each other. We have been able to see our kids grow and it is so cool to share the same developmental steps with someone! Hillarie is expecting a little girl, so we will see how closely we match up after all :)

My Maternity Session

I am overwhelmed with blessings in my life. I have an amazing husband who works hard as an engineer and also chooses to help me with our photography business. His model portraiture is amazing and he is constantly challenging me to be a better photographer and better person. We are blessed with an awesome two year old son, Austin. He has been such a joy to watch grow and become a little person from that tiny baby we brought home two years ago. We have such great clients, friends, neighbors and a church community.... the list goes on and on. Sometimes I forget that...

Anyway, right now we are so blessed that God has chosen us to be the parents of another little miracle. Although I am very ready to have this baby, pregnancy is an amazing time and I am glad we had the chance to capture the changes that occur with my body and our family, and I am so excited to share them with you.

It is also easier to experiment with cool new styles on myself than on a poor unsuspecting client :) so check out some of the new stuff below.

Lori Dorman is an amazing maternity photographer, and her style inspired me to try the fabric images. Man it is a lot harder than it looks!!

Ashley & Nicholas

My nephew Nicholas had his portraits taken each month for the first year of his life. Since his birthday in September, I feel like I haven't had the chance to capture his hilarious little smile. His big sister Ashley used to only sit for maybe one picture, and now she is doing fantastic. Although we had high hopes for more than one outfit, Nicholas decided it was too boring to sit still for even a second and I am thrilled that we got what we did. Maybe an outfit change next time??

Newborn Jameson

Newborn Jameson was a fantastic little client! He even let me try out a few of my new props I picked up at IKEA last week. He also has amazing skin for a newborn. Many times when little ones come to visit us in the studio they can be very pink, blotchy, sometimes a bit yellow, dry, (That is why most of the time the best look for newborns is black and white...) but for Jameson, he was perfect! Of course with amazingly beautiful parents, how could he be anything but. Congratulations Rachelle and Paul!

One of the things I love about being a photographer is that I have the chance to creat long term relationships with our clients. Kelly was a model for Brent in 2007 and booked her wedding with us in 2009. In 2010, we have the opportunity to see her expecting and in a few months we will get to meet their baby boy! The Knot Best of Weddings 2010

About a month ago I recieved a call from the Knot letting me know that I had been voted one of the best of 2010 for Michigan photographers. It didn't really sink in, but this month a bride called to let me know she had seen our name in the Knot magazine. So yesterday I hit the newsstands to see our name listed as one of the Best of Weddings, 2010! Thank you so much to the brides and clients who voted for me, I really am so honored!

Seven day old Emmalyn is basically every parent's dream. She is absolutely beautiful and was a dream during the entire session. She even gave me a couple of smiles, focused her bright, wide eyes directly at the camera, and fell sound asleep for all of the prop portraits. I met Gabe's family just before Christmas, when he was still tucked snugly away in moms belly. His big brother Logan was a bit less excited about this session than he was his last one, but had a great time playing upstairs with my son Austin. Gabe was great although he did shower his poor daddy a couple of times... one of the many blessings of taking portraits of naked babies :) Congratulations on your new addition!

As you can tell, my engagement session with Jason and Lisa was not the warmest day ever, but it was well worth it! One thing I love about this couple is that they are being very true to themselves planning a February wedding, and engagement portraits in the snow. Lisa said that this is just who they are, not the frills and fuss surrounding most weddings. I am excited to try a few things at the wedding that we were just way to cold for at the end of the session! Congratulations Jason and Lisa!

As you can tell I had a very hard time choosing my favorite shots from this session. Diego was born at 33 weeks, so he was a tiny little peanut when they brought him in for portraits. It worked out perfectly as he was sleepy and bendy! (Two of my favorite newborn attributes :)

His big brother and sister also did a phenomenal job. I am obsessed with the images of the three kids. What a beautiful family. Congratulations on your beautiful little guy!

Elsa has the most feminine little features! She fell asleep pretty easily during her session, and we were still able to get a few cute ones with her eyes open. I love the shot in the basket because she looks like she is having so much fun in there! She is now three months old (bad me for not posting these sooner) so now you get a glimpse of her at three months as well!

Emma (my adorable niece) is one of the busiest one year olds I have ever photographed. She has these hilarious dance moves, and I think was getting some more teeth because she kept sticking her little tongue out at me. For her birthday, we made an invitation from all of her sessions this year. I love how it turned out. My sister even taped a few together and used them as cernter pieces at her party. Elijah just turned a year old and every time I see him, he looks more and more like his big brothers. They get so big so fast, but Eli is taking his sweet time walking. My son Austin waited until right around 15 months to really start walking all the time. It was nice to still have a little control over where he went, so no rush Elijah, take your time!

Even with the best of circumstances, some children get very shy around the camera. Xander was a little apprehensive, and we were able to get a few shots with his awesome smile. Big sister Ava was amazing, the kid could be a model. She performed in her dance wear, Christmas dress and casual outfit! And I have to say, Mom has such a cool style. I wish I were more like her!

Catching Up!

So before I rock this world by adding another little Taylor to it, I am going to do my best to get up to date by blogging all of this winter's portrait sessions! (I am due in about 6 weeks, so this may be pushing it... but here we go!)

My Baby Project

A little while after my son was born, a friend and I talked about getting together with other moms we knew once a week. At the time, all of us had one child under the age of one and the get togethers were very serene, with little babies playing, sleeping or nursing. Since that time just short of two years ago, each mom has added another child to the family, and now the play group has grown to over 15 children!

This summer I thought it would be fun to capture them in their last moments of babyness right before the new group of siblings arrived. We had the playgroup at my house and took the kids two by two down to the studio. I love how this turned out, and how innocent and precious all of our children look. Ages range from 2 years to 7 months. This will be on a 10x30 canvas in our studio.

Connor and I first met when he was three days old. His mom called to schedule the appointment a week before her due date. I was thrilled to meet him then, and it is so wonderful to be able to watch him grow. His older sister Sam also likes our sessions so that she can play upstairs with my son Austin. What a gift! Carter is six months old, and for his session, we got to try out a few different outfits and hats. He has these huge brown eyes that just light up when he smiles!! The last time he was in I was apparently in a funk and could not make him smile for the life of me. This time he was nothing but grins, and what a great Christmas gift he will be.

Sarah & Ryan are expecting their third child, a girl, later this month. Sarah's belly is still tiny! I cannot believe she is about to have a baby. Andy is getting so big so fast! It seems like we just photographed his six month session, and now he is back for his Nine month portraits!! One of the things I love about this time of year is the creation of holiday cards. Andy donned a reindeer headband and Santa hat for his, and they turned out great! Merry Christmas!!

I have been eagerly anticipating my first newborn twins session, so when Patty called to schedule her newborn session and let me know she was expecting twin boys, I was thrilled!

Deegan and Gavin were great and I learned that it is much easier to work with an assistant when my intern, Emily arrived to help out. The heart shot I have seen a few times, and really wanted to try it out for myself. I am in love with it. They are so sweet, and their little pile of piggies is my favorite shot of the day. Light of Calvary Church

The Light of Calvary Church congregation invited me to photograph their group right after church service on a Sunday morning. It was such a warm and inviting place, I know this group must feel like one big family. It was also a cool way to show the growing Church and the closeness of the body of Christ. Emily is an amazing young woman. Not only is she beautiful, she is a musician and budding photographer! I am lucky enough to have her interning with me this fall, and hope to encourage her talent and have her work with me on many more sessions. Her senior portraits were so much fun and we went all over the place. One of my favorite spots so far was this barn at the side of the road. The corn field was right behind it, and although she looks warm, it was really really cold that day!

Whenever we have the chance, Brent and I love to team up on senior sessions. He is such a good portrait photographer, and has a cool perspective. It always gives me more ideas and the senior more options to choose from. (Oh and he is way funnier than I am and can always get an authentic smile.) During Emily's session, she really wanted to get some graffiti shots, and they turned out really cool. The colors looked fantastic with her hair and jeans! So thank you graffiti vandal. Your art is appreciated.

Desiree wanted the fall look for her portraits, so we waited until the leaves were perfect, and headed to the park. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day, the wind was gently blowing, the leaves were all over the place, and we weren't freezing! I love how green her eyes are in this bottom image. You gotta love a guy who picks a tee shirt and khaki shorts for his senior session. Casey was a good sport even when I took him to a shack surrounded by a cloud of mosquitos. Oh, and his poor girlfriend, who was helping out, was almost carried away by the little jerks. We got out of there in a hurry and went to a park near our home for the rest of the session. Thanks for not running away screaming, and I hope the swelling has gone down!

Ben's parents are mentors of mine, so I felt so honored when they asked me to do Ben's senior portraits. This guy is so down to earth, and is an awesome musician, so I was a little intimidated (I lack general coolness...) and really wanted to create some images that reflected his personal style.. As you can tell by the lack of posts, things have been a bit hectic at the Taylor house. This fall has been amazing! We are so blessed with new clients, a full schedule of weddings, senior portraits and new babies. The only thing I could wish for would be a few more hours in the day, and maybe an automatic blogging machine.. or diaper changing machine, although I would much rather blog than, well you get the idea.

Our son Austin turns two next weekend, and time has flown by. We are expecting our second child in February and it has slowed me down a bit more than I would like to admit. I am so glad everyone has been understanding on some of my 'slower moving' days :)

The next few days I will be posting a bunch of fall and winter sessions to the blog, so please enjoy and let me know your favorites! Thank you all for your friendship and have a wonderful holiday season!

Zack and Sarah were so much fun to work with! I am super excited about their wedding next year. They are planning on a winter wedding in Frankenmuth, a beautiful little Bavarian town that absolutely sparkles during the holidays. The reception site will even have a 40 foot Christmas tree! How cool will that be! Now I just have to find the patience to wait until December of 2010.....

Engagement at Beal Gardens

While photographing Zack and Sarah's engagement portraits on MSU's campus, we came across a note taped to the Library fountain. It was accompanied by a rose, and being nosy, I opened it and realized that it was the second to last clue in a proposal scavenger hunt! (No I didn't read the entire letter, I am not that nosy :) So we kept on our little journey and found the anxious guy setting up a beautiful area with a blanket, roses and candles. I introduced myself and let him know that if we were in the area when his lucky lady arrived, that I would try to snap a few pictures. Sarah and Zack were totally on board, so we loitered a bit, and took a few images of the proposal. She said yes, and it was very cool to be able to help them capture a pivital moment in their lives. Men, if you are thinking of proposing, I would be more than happy to hide in the bushes!

Tessa started out the session a little sleepy, waking up from her nap in the car, and unwilling to crack a smile. I was glad that she shook off the sleepies as soon as we changed her into her giraffe suit, and was hilarious for the rest of the time! She was a total angel, and let us change her outfit five times!! Naked was definitely her favorite.

At three months old, normally you can get a few good smiles, and some adorable tummy time pictures. Abby made me work for the few smiles she gave, although she was an an excellent baby through the entire session. I can't wait for her six month session!

We will be turning our Garage into a studio for portraits of your cute and creepy costumes in exchange for a non-perishable food donation to benefit the Holt Food Bank!

During a jumping shot, one of the bridesmaids flower bouquets basically exploded. It was hilarious and made for one of my favorite portrait sequences this year!

Julie and Doug were married at Yarrow Golf Club in September. It was a beautiful afternoon and the weather and sunset were amazing. The groom and four of his groomsmen all serve as firefighters. The dynamic and laughter between the guys was contagious and they also suited up for a steamy garter grab! Nick was a bit reluctant to have his senior portraits taken.. I think guys tend to think they are going to some 'glamor shots' type session where they will feel totally uncomfortable, have to make cheesy smiles, and lean gently on their hands. This is not at all what a typical guys portrait session is like. We relax, talk, walk around, try some things, and pretty soon, they are done! No dorky jokes (ok, I may be bit dorky....), big productions or awkward poses. Nick's images turned out great and reflect his personality. Sophie, Erin and Phil made the drive from Mt. Pleasant to Holt for a few updated family pictures. Phil is my cousin, so it was great to have them visit for the afternoon. Sophie is also hilarious. Andy has the most adorable smile! I really enjoy spending time getting to know these little guys, and I am blessed that Andy is the son of my best friend from high school. So I get to see him a bit more than many of my other clients. For his six month session, we started outside, but he was not thrilled with the bright sun, or the wet grass, although the wood chips were very tasty.. So we went back to the studio and captured a few awesome smiles!

For Lauren's newborn session, her family requested mostly color images, which is a slight departure from what I normally do for newborn sessions. Lauren had perfect skin, so the color images looked fantastic! I also had to add this bottom image, because I love the little oops pictures I end up with. This little guy wanted to look right into the lens, and the resulting family portrait cracks me up. Congratulations on the new addition!

Some of my favorite shots are the ones of kids pouting. It shows a side of them that is rarely photographed, but still adorable. I know at home the last thing I think of when my son is pouting, or about the throw a fit, is to grab the camera and take a picture... So I love when these little guys share a glimpse of their moodiness with me. If only it were that cute when adults got cranky :)

Victoria and her sister Erica had their school year portraits with me this year, instead of the school studio. I too remember the days of plastic combs, the blue/gray background and squeaky stool. I could break out some seriously hilarious pictures from each of those years in elementary and high school. (Especially the year I forgot it was picture day and wore a sweater with a hole in it and my bangs about a mile high!) This year, the ladies decided to do something a bit more fun and personal, so we spent some time at the park to remember this year in their life!

Newborn babies constantly remind me of the amazing creation that we are as humans, and the awe inspiring power of God. Little Dawson really put that in my mind during his session, and for the following couple of weeks. Dawson was born at only 24 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound, 11 ounces. His parents didn't even have the chance to hold him until he was 35 days old and finally took him home four surgeries and four months later. He is now five months old, and for his 'newborn' session two weeks ago, I am guessing he weighed just over six pounds.

He was just amazing to me. Here we are in one of the most blessed nations in the world, complaining about petty things, aches and pains, while a newborn baby is fighting for life every single day, as his parents watch with their hearts basically bleeding. I am so grateful that we have doctors that can help a baby born so early, and a God who understands our pain and struggles.

For those of you who do not know, we are expecting our second child in February, and I have been pretty sick with this one. I may have even complained a couple of times :) After meeting Dawson and his amazing family, I am overwhelmed by this amazing blessing of another child, and cherish every moment this baby is safe and growing inside me, even when I feel like throwing up... again.

Leanne and Adam were married in Kalamazoo on August 15th. In the top image, you can see the amazing purple and pink light streaming into the sanctuary. It was beautiful! The reception was held at Kalamazoo College, which also had tons of interesting places to take portraits. I love visiting new locations and having the chance to try out new poses, sometimes I just wish we had more time.... This couple and their bridal party were hilarious. They had the coolest shoes of any groomsmen I have photographed and kept me laughing pretty much the entire day. What more can you ask for really?

One of the blessings of my job is that I am able to share it with family and friends. I love when they bring their kids over, Austin gets a fun little play date, and I get to spend time with their beautiful little babies. Cole was very happy and smiled a lot during his session. When I photographed Kara, Cole's big sister, during her first year, I was lucky to even glimpse a smile, let alone capture it on camera! So I consider this session a huge success!

Right around 18 months old, (back in June), our son Austin was having a very happy evening, so we decided to head downstairs for a few portraits! He was so funny and is always very comfortable in the studio, so we had some fun and tried a few different things. His facial expressions were hilarious and what you can't see are the 20 rubber ducks hiding in, and flying out of, the washtub. Also, just to show you that our kid too has his 'moments'...... The past couple of months seemed to have flown by, as summers often do, so I am finally posting our nephew Nicholas' ten and eleven month portraits! He will be a year old next weekend and I am so excited for his last 'monthly' photo shoot. Nicholas is hilarious in the studio. We are never there for long, he has a very short amount of 'picture patience' and as long as we get a good one, we are done. The soccer session was one of my favorites, he looks like a mini athlete!

After what seemed like a drive to the middle of nowhere, we photographed Shannon and Mike's wedding at a beautiful stone church stood among the fields in a little town called Beal City. Being from a nearby small town, I was so excited to share this day with them. The church was packed and the couple had, by far, the largest bridal party we have ever worked with. The two have been dating since the fifth grade, so you have to figure there are a lot of friends in those times to work into the deal! Congratulations you two, and we hope Mexico was amazing!

I try really hard not to be partial, but Ryan's newborn sessions was one of my favorite. Ryan was wide eyed and happy during portraits with his mom and dad, and fell soundly asleep at the end of his session for some of the most amazing newborn portraits I have ever taken. He was out cold. I moved him four different times, and he stayed fast asleep. I also tried out a new lighting and backdrop set up, and I am really happy with the results. The last three images were on the new set up and turned out stunning. Thanks so much Chaya and Nate for sharing your little one with me!

Kay and Mike were married August 1st at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in West Bloomfield. After the ceremony, we went to Kay's parents home where they had a great set up of snacks and a visit from a deer in the back yard. I did not expect to see a deer right smack in the middle of a Detroit suburb.... Anyway, to add to the excitement of the day, Mike had a mishap the week before resulting in a spectacular black eye. The swelling was down the day of the wedding, and they had a great attitude about it, so we did the best we could and tried to have him pose on the right of everyone. It all seemed a bit Zoolander :) Congratulations Bjerke's!

Chad and Taylor were married today at Bay Pointe Inn, on Gun Lake. It was an amazing day with perfect weather, and a very cool arrival by the bride. Whenever a good friend calls to tell me that they are engaged, I try not to put on any pressure, but in my head I am secretly saying, "please ask me to do your wedding, please ask me to do your wedding........" It is so much fun to be able to share the wedding day of a friend. Whether you are standing up in the bridal party, or for me, standing back and catching the moments, it truly is a once in a lifetime event, and I am always so honored to be asked. This couple was so much fun to hang out with! We met at Cooley Gardens, just outside of downtown Lansing for a few shots in the garden, then went downtown to the Capitol Building for a few more... When I say few, I am using the word very liberally... I could've taken a hundred more pictures of these two! (Normally an engagement session is around 70-100 images, this session ended up with 175!) I am so excited for their wedding next year and look forward to seeing them again.

In what seemed to me like the blink of an eye, little Lucia turned a year old! She is still a sweetheart, but made me work much harder for smiles this time. Brent and I can not get over her eyes. As a very cool (and beautiful :) birthday gift, I was invited to photograph a surprise party for Sandi. She was turning 'double nickels' and her friends were surprising her with a girls celebration. The food was amazing and each lady also had the opportunity to paint a wine glass at the party. It was so great being around these ladies, many I knew from working at the Country Club of Lansing, and also to celebrate an awesome woman on her birthday. Happy Birthday Sandi!
